The Kogi State command of the Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued thirteen kidnap victims.
This was revealed in a statement released on Tuesday night by SP William Ovye Aya, the police public relations officer.
Eleven men and two women were among the victims who were saved, according to Aya.
He claimed that on March 25, 2023, the victims were abducted from a hotel in the Eleite Area along the Ajaokuta Road and held captive until they were freed by Kogi State Police Command agents working with the Quick Response Unit.
The police spokesperson stated that the development was in response to the Commissioner of Police, CP Akeem Yusuf, ordering that measures be taken to ensure that all victims are rescued without injury.
The statement read, Today, Tuesday, March 28, 2023, the Operatives of the Quick Response Unit, led by the Commander, SP Obafemi Ojo, swiftly swung into action through reliable intelligence and discovered the kidnappers' hideout in a forest nearby Zariagi-Kabba Junction.
“On sighting the police, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun duel." Owing to the superior firepower of the police, the hoodlums were forced to flee with varying degrees of injuries, while 13 kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt. One AK-47 magazine containing six rounds of ammunition was recovered from the scene”.
Aya, who said the Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their bravery and diligence, urged members of the public, particularly those in adjoining communities, to be on the lookout and report any body seen with bullet wounds to the nearest security formation or agencies.
He further enjoins the people of Kogi State to continue to cooperate with the police and provide credible information on the activities of criminal elements so as to curtail their acts in the state.
