A heartbreaking incident shook Gudaba village in Kuje Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria, as a 52-year-old man, Salihu Byezhe, collapsed and died while observing Subhi (early morning) prayers at a local mosque on February 6, 2025.
How It Happened
Eyewitnesses revealed that before heading to the mosque, Byezhe had eaten Sahurβthe pre-dawn meal consumed by Muslims before fasting during Ramadan. After performing ablution, he joined other worshippers for Subhi prayers.
During the prayer session, tragedy struck. Byezhe suddenly slumped to the ground, prompting immediate concern from fellow worshippers. In a desperate attempt to save his life, they rushed him to a hospital in Kuje. Sadly, upon arrival, doctors confirmed his passing.
Cause of Death
Medical experts attributed his sudden death to complications related to high blood pressure, a condition that can often go unnoticed until a critical moment.
A Community in Mourning
The news of Byezheβs unexpected demise sent shockwaves throughout Gudaba village. His son, who was present in the mosque when the incident occurred, accompanied him to the hospital, witnessing the tragic loss firsthand.
In line with Islamic burial rites, Byezheβs remains were laid to rest on the same day at 10:12 a.m., surrounded by grieving family members, friends, and fellow worshippers.
