Sheikh Muhyideen Ajani Bello, a celebrated Islamic scholar and preacher widely known as "Baba Oniwasi Agbaye," has passed away at the age of 84.



His death was announced on Friday, December 6, 2024, leaving many in grief across Nigeria and beyond.

The news of his passing was first shared by Sheikh Taofeek Akewugbagold, an Ibadan-based cleric, in a heartfelt Facebook post. Akewugbagold mourned the loss of his mentor and spiritual guide, writing, "Today is one of my saddest days! My father and mentor has returned to his Creator. Sultanul Wahizeen of Yorubaland Sheikh Muhyideen Ajani Bello, may Allah be pleased with your soul. Aljannah Firdaus for you. Our hearts are full of grief and our eyes full of tears, but we will say nothing but what will please our Creator, the sole commander of life and death – ALLAH."

Similarly, his son, Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, popularly known as Aponle Anobi, confirmed the news on social media, posting crying emojis alongside a picture of the late scholar.

Sheikh Muhyideen Ajani Bello was born in 1940 in Ibadan, Oyo State, into the family of Alhaji Bello Ajani and Alhaja Ubaidat Bello of Arolu Compound, Ita Olukoyi. From a young age, his deep passion for Islamic teachings was evident. By the age of 10, he had begun preaching publicly, laying the foundation for what would become a lifelong dedication to the propagation of Islam.

Sheikh Bello's fearless sermons and commitment to truth and justice earned him widespread respect. His teachings influenced countless individuals, shaping the spiritual lives of communities across Nigeria and beyond.

The passing of Sheikh Muhyideen has sparked an outpouring of tributes from followers, clerics, and well-wishers. His steadfast devotion to Islamic principles and his role as a teacher and community leader have left a legacy that will continue to inspire.
