In Gbeyi in Adegbayi, Ibadan, Oyo State, the community was shaken by devastating news.
Residents woke up to hear of the tragic incident involving 33-year-old Comfort Olalere Tinubu, who allegedly stabbed her husband, Olusegun Tinubu, aged 39, leading to his death late Wednesday night.
The couple, married for about three years and raising two young children, reportedly became embroiled in a heated argument after Comfort allegedly locked her husband out of their bedroom. The tension, which had escalated throughout the day, tragically culminated in a violent altercation around 10 p.m. According to a family source, the argument began when Olusegun confronted Comfort about locking the bedroom door since early morning and returning home later in the evening.
The family member, who requested anonymity, shared that he first received a call around 10:03 p.m. alerting him to the situation. "I was told they fought, and she stabbed him," he said, "but that he was being rushed to the hospital. Just 30 minutes later, I got the heartbreaking call that my younger brother was gone."
Upon reporting the incident at the police station, Comfort reportedly recounted that the argument had escalated when her husband slapped her as she lay breastfeeding their child. The situation spiraled as another relative, who had been staying with the couple while undergoing medical treatment, attempted to intervene. Believing he had defused the argument, he asked Olusegun to spend the night in the living room.
However, what followed was even more tragic. Comfort allegedly approached her husband as he lay resting in the living room, stabbed him in the back, causing him to scream for help before he ultimately collapsed. When he arrived at the hospital, it was too late; he had succumbed to his injuries.
This tragic event has left both the family and community of Gbeyi in deep sorrow and shock. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, hoping to uncover more details about what may have contributed to this heartbreaking loss.
