Tragedy struck in Port Harcourt as gunmen targeted and killed Mr.
Uche Orukwo, a member of the Diobu Vigilante Group (DVG), at the Obidanso Waterfront in Mile 1 Diobu, Rivers State. The incident, which unfolded on Saturday night, has sparked fear and unease in the community, prompting calls for calm from the local police.
According to reports, Orukwo was part of a security team dispatched to the waterfront following intelligence of cultist activities in the area. Acting on this information, the team arrived at the scene around 9 p.m. on Saturday, where they encountered suspected cultists preparing for an imminent attack on a rival group amid an ongoing power struggle.
Tragically, upon sighting the security operatives, the cultists opened fire, resulting in the fatal shooting of Orukwo, a dedicated member of the vigilante group.
The State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the heartbreaking incident and assured the public that investigations are underway to apprehend those responsible for Orukwo's murder.
The loss of Orukwo underscores the dangers faced by those committed to maintaining peace and security in their communities.
