The six time world best player Messi has said his loyalty to Barcelona will not allow him to take the club to court and he will remain at the club for now, he says "Now I am going to continue in the club because the president told me that the only way to leave was to pay the €700m (£624m) clause, and that this is impossible"

Lionel Messi says he will remain at Barcelona next season after performing a shock U-turn on his future.

Messi says he never considered taking the matter to trial in order to force an exit from Barcelona, where he has spent the entirety of his professional career.

"I thought and was sure that I was free to leave, the president always said that at the end of the season I could decide if I stayed or not," Messi told  Goal

"Now they cling to the fact that I did not say it before June 10, when it turns out that on June 10 we were competing for La Liga in the middle of this awful coronavirus and this disease altered all the season.

"And this is the reason why I am going to continue in the club. Now I am going to continue in the club because the president told me that the only way to leave was to pay the €700m (£624m) clause, and that this is impossible."

"There was another way and it was to go to trial," he added. "I would never go to court against Barca because it is the club that I love, which gave me everything since I arrived.

"It is the club of my life, I have made my life here.

"Barca gave me everything and I gave it everything. I know that it never crossed my mind to take Barca to court."

Seem it does not rain but pour for Barcelona in the champions league as the Catalan club will pay Liverpool €5m (£4.5m), after Philippe Coutinho won the Champions League with Bayern Munich on Sunday.

Coutinho came on as a second-half substitute as the German club defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Brazilian who is on loan at Bayern, moved to Barca from Liverpool for a fee around £142m in 2018.

After failing to impress with the LaLiga side, he moved to the Bundesliga team, where he has now helped them win a Treble this season.

It will be recalled that some weeks ago Coutinho scored twice against his parent club, Barcelona, during the 8-2 thrashing last Friday.

The deal to sign Coutinho from Liverpool included a number of potential add-on clauses and interestingly, they are player-specific not club-specific.

One of those clauses was that Barca would pay Liverpool €5m if the 26-year-old won the Champions League in either the 2018/2019 or 2019/2020 season, but it does not specify that it had to be while playing for them.

Lionel Messi’s fifth-place finish in this year’s Ballon d’Or vote was absurd, his FC Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde said of the Spanish champions’ Argentina forward on Tuesday.

Real Madrid’s Croatia midfielder Luka Modric took the prize Monday in Paris after winning the UEFA Champions League and being named the tournament’s player at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The 33-year-old’s triumph ended Messi’s and Cristiano Ronaldo’s decade-long reign, with the Juventus’ Portugal striker finishing second and Messi fifth in a vote by 180 journalists.

“I will not get into discussing the inconsistencies of the prize,” Valverde told reporters.

“We congratulate Modric for winning the Ballon d’Or but Messi being in fifth place is absurd.”

Messi, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, led Barca to a La Liga-Copa del Rey double last season but Argentina went out of the World Cup in the last 16 to eventual champions France.

The Barca No. 10 also won a record fifth European Golden Shoe after finishing with 34 top-flight goals last season.

Modric got 753 points followed by Ronaldo on 476, Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann with 414 and Paris St-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe was fourth with 347, ahead of Messi on 280.

FC Barcelona host Cultural Leonesa on Wednesday in the second leg of their Copa del Rey round of 32 tie, in which they hold a 1-0 advantage.

However, Messi is not expected to feature.
