Memphis Depay is now expected to leave Barcelona in the coming days after weeks of speculation about his future.

With only four appearances this season, the Dutchman has struggled to find playing time under head coach Xavi Hernandez. In terms of priority, he is now below players like Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, and Robert Lewandowski.

When Depay's contract with Barcelona expired in June, the club initially wanted to hold onto him for the remainder of the season before letting him go. However, they made the decision last week to permit his departure as long as any deal benefited the club financially.

Depay was chosen by Atletico Madrid to replace Joao Felix, who left for Chelsea earlier this month. When his contract expired, Atleti wanted to sign him initially on a loan until the end of the season before doing so permanently. Barcelona set an initial asking price of €7 million, though they insisted on receiving a fee for any deal.

Now, it appears that they will receive approximately half of that, as Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Atleti and Barca have agreed on a deal for Depay, which will be worth €3–4 million. The forward will complete medical tests in the next few days and will sign a contract until the summer of 2025.

Atleti will hope to have Depay available for this weekend’s La Liga match against Real Valladolid. For Barcelona, they will now search for a replacement.
