Former Premier League referee Peter Walton has given his verdict on the penalty awarded to Arsenal in their 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday.
Arsenal made it eight wins in nine matches on Sunday with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.
Saka scored the last goal from the spot after Thiago Alcantara was adjudged to have kicked Gabriel Jesus in the box, a situation the Brazilian made the most of.
And speaking on Premier League Productions, Walton was asked his opinion on the incident.
“I’m thinking about what happened when Michael Oliver awarded the decision," he said.
“The referee and the VAR officials will speak quickly." I think Michael was convinced he [Thiago] had not touched the ball and that he had caught the ankle [of Jesus] and had given a penalty.
“As you can see, he doesn’t get the ball, he just caught him across the ankle.”
