John Barnes, a former midfielder for Liverpool, has explained why referee Michael Oliver decided against giving the Reds a penalty when the ball struck Gabriel's hand inside Arsenal's area.

Gabriel's raised hand prevented Diogo Jota from completing his cross, and the VAR looked into the situation but did not change the referee's ruling.

Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli scored after just 58 seconds, and Liverpool thought they should have been given a penalty in the 15th.

Speaking about the incident, Barnes agreed with the decision, saying, “It’s too close."
“I don’t like this idea of an unnatural position because you’re a footballer. I’m not sure what an unnatural position is if you’re a footballer, running around with your hands up." It’s too close [to give a penalty].”
Darwin Nunez made it 1-1 for Jurgen Klopp’s men, but Arsenal went ahead again through Bukayo Saka before the break.

Roberto Firmino came off the bench to make it 2-2, but Saka scored a controversial penalty awarded to the Gunners to make it 3-2 for the North London side.
