Director Marina Granovskaia was arguably the most significant and influential woman in football before she left Chelsea earlier this summer.
Roman Abramovich's 2003 purchase of Chelsea, which she had spent the majority of her adult life working for, provided Granovskaia with the opportunity to enter the football industry.
Chelsea had a very successful 19 years under the leadership of both Abramovich and Granovskaia. During that time, the Londoners won numerous significant awards, including five Premier League championships and the 2011–12 and 2020–21 Champions League.
However, in June, Granovskaia left Stamford Bridge with her boss after Abramovich made a quick sale that resulted in Todd Boehly, an American business tycoon, taking over.
Boehly said in a statement at the time, as cited by TalkSport, "We thank Marina for her many years of excellent service to the club and wish her the best in her future endeavors."
Even though the 47-year-old has only been absent from the business for two months, rumors about a potential comeback are already rampant.
Updating fans on the Russian-Canadian’s situation, as well as her plans for the future, Fabrizio Romano, who writes exclusively for CaughtOffside via SubStack, said: “Marina Granovskaia left her position as Chelsea director earlier this summer and I believe she wants to take some time off after so many years working for the Blues."
However, I think she could consider a return to working in football in the future, but nothing is final or agreed at the moment.
