Rio Ferdinand, a former defender for Manchester United, identified Pavel Morrison as the player whose talent blew him away but who was unable to reach the pinnacles of football success.
Morrison was a member of the Manchester United youth team alongside players like Paul Pogba and Danny Welbeck, so there were high expectations for him.
Morrison, according to Ferdinand, outperformed all the other kids in that youth system but was unable to become a professional football player.
“I told you guys. You don’t understand how good this kid was! " Ferdinand said, "Vibe with Five
“He blew your mind." It is crazy. Everyone talks about [him], but it’s almost like you needed to be there to really see and understand what he was doing – and not only in the reserves.
Sometimes, if you’re coming back from an injury or something like that, you’d go and train with the reserves, and he'd do even more stupid stuff with the reserves. He’d play centre-back sometimes in training! "
Morrison left Manchester United for West Ham United in January 2012 and spent the 2012–13 season on loan with Birmingham City.
He also played for Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City on loan in 2014. When his contract with West Ham ended, he moved to Italy to join Lazio.
The Jamaican international has represented other clubs such as Mexican club Atlas, stersund, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and now plays for DC United in the US Major League Soccer.
