Since the end of May, the Netherlands international has been closely associated with Manchester United, but so far, they have been unable to bring the Barcelona midfielder to Old Trafford.
The deal to bring Casemiro from Real Madrid has been reached by the 20-time English champions, seemingly ending Manchester United's hopes of bringing De Jong to Old Trafford.
Marcel van der Kraan of the Telegraaf reports that the Premier League team is still hopeful of bringing the 25-year-old to Manchester.
Van der Kraan claims that the Red Devils are willing to support head coach Erik ten Hag in the closing stages of the market and that the club wants to sign De Jong to play alongside Casemiro in midfield.
Manchester United is reportedly preparing a sizable offer for Ajax attacker Antony, who is pushing to leave the Dutch champions in order to reunite with Ten Hag, and are expected to pay £60 million for Casemiro plus up to £10 million in add-ons.
De Jong is reportedly the subject of a £71.5 million deal between the Red Devils and Barcelona, but getting the midfielder to move to Old Trafford has proven difficult so far.
The Dutchman is still thought to be owed £17m by Barcelona in deferred wages, which is believed to be one of the main issues currently holding up his move away from Camp Nou.
