Assistant referee, Constantine Hatzidakis, has been suspended from officiating any matches while a Football Association (FA, investigation is carried out into an incident involving him and Liverpool’s Andy Robertson on Sunday.
The bizarre scene saw Robertson yelling at Hatzidakis after the half-time whistle at Anfield during the 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
The official seemed to throw out his hand to shrug him off, although footage suggested he may have caught the Liverpool fullback on the chin with his elbow.
On Monday, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited released a statement confirming his suspension.
It reads: “PGMOL will not be appointing Constantine Hatzidakis to fixtures in any of the competitions it serves whilst the FA investigates the incident involving the assistant referee and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at Anfield.”
