The number jersey hasn’t favoured a number of players at Chelsea, and the last number 9 to shine for the clubwas Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
Chelsea number 9 Alavaro Morata has now revealed his Chelsea teammates warned him not to choose the club’s cursed No.9 shirt when he signed for the club.
The 25-year-old had started his Chelsea career with a bang, scoring eight goals in his first nine matches, but he has now gone six games without a goal since he back from a hamstring injury.Fernando Torres and RadamelFalcao were the two latest strikers to fall short in the number 9 jersey, but Morata said he wanted the jersey.Morata told Four Four Two: “That was one of the first things I was told after turning up here. Even the lads were begging me not to take that shirt because it was cursed, but I wanted it.“I’ve done a couple of little things to avoid the bad luck that the shirt supposedly brings.“Can I tell you what I’ve done?No chance. If I did that, the curse will come back!”Since Hasselbaink, Mateja Kezman, Hernan Crespo, Khalid Boulahrouz, Steve Sidwell, Franco Di Santo, Fernando Torres and RadamelFalcao have all flopped while wearing the number 9 for Chelsea. However, Morata has buried the myth of the number9 curse.
