Emmanuel Dennis did not decline an invitation to represent Nigeria in the friendlies against Algeria, according to Nottingham Forest Premier League club.

Head coach Jose Peseiro invited Dennis to fill in for injured Adana Demirspor winger Henry Onyekuru.

However, the former Club Brugge player chose not to play after getting hurt in Nottingham Forest's 3-2 loss to Fulham the previous weekend.

After Peseiro initially disregarded him, Dennis was charged with declining the invitation.

However, Nottingham Forest has refuted the claim and stated that the adaptable striker is actually injured.

“Taiwo Awoniyi has been called up to the Nigeria squad for their friendly against Algeria." Emmanuel Dennis, meanwhile, has withdrawn due to injury, "reads a statement on the club’s official website.

The 24-year-old has made seven appearances for the Super Eagles with a goal to his name.
