Emiliano Martinez, the goalie for Argentina, claimed that the South Americans' suffering during their victory over France in the World Cup final was their fate.
The French star Randal Kolo Muani, who missed the Europeans' final chance to win the game during extra time in the second half, was also held accountable by the Aston Villa goalkeeper.
Martinez delivered an incredible performance in the penalty shootout and made a critical save in overtime to keep France from winning.
The Golden Glove trophy for the competition was given to him.
“We suffered a lot,” Martinez said post-match. “We thought we were in control, but they managed to come back." It was a very complicated game. Our destiny was to suffer. They had one last chance to win [when he saved Randal Kolo Muani’s late shot], but luckily I was able to stop it with my foot. "This is a moment I’ve always dreamed of living.”
