Former England manager, Fabio Capello, has suggested that the Three Lions are one of the favourite countries to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year because Gareth Southgate’s side will be fresh when the tournament kicks off in November.
Capello believes England’s chances of winning the World Cup this year are very high because the tournament is taking place at the end of the year.
England is already one of the favourites to win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
This year’s World Cup was controversially moved from its usual summer slot to November and December to dodge the scorching summer heat.
While that move provoked much outrage worldwide, Capello feels England will benefit from the change as their players won’t be suffering from end-of-season burnout.
“The problem sometimes is that English players arrive tired at the end of the season,” Capello told The Sun.
Did you see Liverpool [in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid]? It was their 63rd match. They were not fresh. They played well but were not as fast as they usually play.
As England manager, I always said that you can play September, October, and November against all the teams in the world — we’re fresh, we’re running, the mind is clear and clean.
“The next World Cup for England is really, really good. It has arrived at the best moment for English football and English players. They’ll be fresh.”
