Between Cristiano Ronaldo of Al-Nassr and Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain, former Germany international Roman Weidenfeller has chosen the greatest player in football history.

For the past 20 years, Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the football world.

Both Ballon d'Or winners, who are currently nearing the end of their careers, have established numerous scoring records and enjoyed great success at both club and international levels.

Messi and Ronaldo battled each other for nine seasons at the height of their respective careers while representing rival La Liga teams Barcelona and Real Madrid.

These two players are among the most decorated in football history, having won a combined 76 major trophies (Messi 42, Ronaldo 34).

The two forwards are two of the eight players who have scored more than 700 goals for club and country, respectively.

Weidenfeller named Messi and Ronaldo as the two top players he's ever had the chance to play on the field in an interview with KhelNow.

He, however, picked the Argentina captain as the best player among the duo, having won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Weidenfeller said, “Very obvious, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo (the best players I shared the pitch with). Maybe now Lionel Messi, as he has won everything you can win in football (after the World Cup 2022 win).”
