Chelsea has communicated to Cesar Azpilicueta that his contract will be terminated.
Although the Spaniard still has one year left in his current contract, the Blues are willing to allow him to leave as a free agent.
Azpilicueta, who was heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan, is now close to joining Atletico Madrid.
This was confirmed by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Saturday morning.
Romano tweeted: “Chelsea have confirmed to César Azpilicueta and his camp that he’s going to be allowed to leave for free; his contract will be terminated. Mutual respect between Azpi and the club.
“Atlético will unveil Azpi as a new signing very soon. It’s done, sealed, and here we go.”
