The type of player that Chelsea really needs to sign this summer has been identified by manager Thomas Tuchel.
To help their aging defense, Tuchel claimed Chelsea needed to sign a player from a new 'generation'.
Following Chelsea's weekend 1-0 Premier League victory over Everton, the German made this statement.
Recall that Wesley Fofana, a 21-year-old defender for Leicester City, has been mentioned in connection with Chelsea.
Currently, the defense for Tuchel's team includes players like Kalidou Koulibaly, 31, Thiago Silva, 37, and César Azpilicueta, 32.
The trio made their debut in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Everton in the Premier League at Goodison Park.
Tuchel told reporters after Chelsea defeated Everton, "It's maybe another of age, but it's a lot of experience and they have their quality and they know what they're doing.
The guys are strong, but we also need to ensure that a new generation is ready to take over in the coming years. We trust the guys because they are under contract and for that reason.
“There needs to be [balance]. I think it is necessary. The game, in general, is very physical and demands a lot. This is the situation. We knew it before.
“Azpi is the legend that he’s, Thiago is at the moment still very important to us, and when we had the chance to sign Kalidou, we did it because we believe that he has some years ahead of him.”
