Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has stated that Antonio Rudiger was missed by his team during their 4-2 Premier League home defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday.
Arsenal defeated Chelsea thanks to a brace from Eddie Nketiah and goals from Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.
Tuchel's team did score at Stamford Bridge, thanks to Cesar Azpilicueta and Timo Werner.
In a post-match press conference, Tuchel expressed his assessment of Rudiger's absence against Arsenal.
Tuchel revealed ahead of the encounter that Rudiger would miss the match owing to a groin problem he suffered in the FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace last Saturday.
However, when asked by Sky Sports whether he believed Chelsea missed Rudiger as they made defensive errors against Arsenal, Tuchel said: “Of course.”
The German added: “We conceded seven goals with Toni against Brentford and Real Madrid. That answers the question." It’s not about individual players.
A defensive performance is a team performance, and an offensive performance is a team performance. You need to have the tactics right, which it's doubtful I had this right, and you need the team selection right, again it’s doubtful I had this right, "he said.
