UEFA has explained why the idea to buy some top clubs in Europe to float a new league died.

Aleksander Ceferin, President of the European football governing body, spoke on the ongoing face-off between UEFA and the clubs pushing for the Super League’s formation.

The UEFA boss said that currently no teams, apart from Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus, are willing to join in the Super League project.

“I will say that UEFA is not a monopoly,” Ceferin told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“You are free to be in it or not. You can participate in our cups or organise your own. But then, it’s logical that you don’t play in ours, isn’t it?

Whatever the decision of the court, nothing changes – the Super League is dead because nobody wants to participate. I only see three people [Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus] angry with everyone, taking everyone to court,” he said.
