Former Chelsea man Frank Leboeuf has branded the club’s defender Wesley Fofana ‘immature’ after the £75 million signing turned in another error-strewn performance in Chelsea’s 4-1 defeat against Manchester United on Thursday night.
Fofana is one of Chelsea’s stars, and much is expected from him following his move from Leicester City last summer. But the French international has failed to justify both his fee and his reputation.
Injury has been one of his problems, as has the general feeling of chaos that has engulfed the Blues this season.
Leboeuf was scathing of Fofana for the way in which the former Leicester United man conceded the second-half penalty after he needlessly made contact with United captain Bruno Fernandes, having been nutmegged by the Portuguese.
Leboeuf told ESPN FC: “I still want to believe that I’m not wrong and he will rectify the trajectory in his career.
“He has everything he needs to be one of the best center backs, but he needs to grow.
“His frustration today when he was nutmegged by Bruno Fernandes, his reaction was very negative. It was immature, and he had to react better. If he carries on like that, he can damage his career dramatically, that’s for sure.”
