The Edo State Working Committee of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) expelled former Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu and South South Vice Chairman Dan Orbih during a meeting held in Benin on Wednesday.

The committee also upheld the expulsion of former House of Representatives member Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, decided by the executive in Ward 2, Oredo Local Government, on Tuesday.

The nine-member State Working Committee (SWC), which included party chairman Tony Aziegbemi and seven other members, with Tony Anenih Jr. joining virtually, made the decision. Aziegbemi explained that the expulsions were due to anti-party activities, emphasizing that the expelled members had clearly distanced themselves from the PDP.

Aziegbemi expressed confidence that the party's chances in the upcoming September 21 governorship election would not be affected by the expulsions, asserting that the PDP remains well-positioned to win.

Detailing the reasons for the expulsions, Aziegbemi said, “Dan Orbih was expelled for encouraging PDP members to join the opposition party and accepting an appointment as a governing council member of a third-tier institution without consulting the party. Shaibu donated about 15 vehicles to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has been disrespectful to party leaders. Such actions are not befitting of a true party member."

Additionally, Aziegbemi noted that Ogbeide-Ihama had offered his building on Sakponba Road to the APC for campaign use, and it currently displays the billboard of the APC candidate and his running mate.
