The impeachment plot against President Muhammadu Buhari is real, according to Gershom Bassey, a senator from the Cross River Southern Senatorial District.

However, Bassey stated that the impeachment, which is the second part of the notice to the President, shouldn't yet be the focus of attention in an interview with journalists yesterday in Calabar.

He claimed that the first part of their threat—to act quickly within six weeks—is intended to persuade the President to do so.

"I believe that the media has somehow missed the purpose of our action," The goal is to guarantee our nation's safety and security. It is not yet for impeachment; rather, it is to guarantee Nigeria's safety and security. Because of this, we have set a deadline of six weeks for the executive branch, in particular Mr. President, to take action to improve national security.
"The President responding to what we are saying and doing is our best hope," the group says. And everything would have been resolved after six weeks.
"Part one should be the main point of discussion, not so much part two. Part two happens when we fail to achieve part one.
In other words, if there’s continued insecurity without the type of response that we expect within these weeks, then we move to part two, which is the impeachment process proper, which is real.
“We are serious about the impeachment, but we will only get there if part one, which is the actions against the situation in our country, does not improve,” he disclosed.

The Senator, who lost out during the PDP gubernatorial primaries in the state, wondered why up till now, victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack were still being held, whereas nobody had been arrested or held accountable for what happened in Kuje prison.

He bemoaned the fact that the President had been unable to take action to show that he was in tandem with the people.
