Super Eagles coach, Jose Vitor Peseiro, expressed disappointment over the draw but remains hopeful for a reversal of fortunes against Ivory Coast, placing his faith in divine intervention.

In a heated AFCON Group A clash between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, the Super Eagles battled to a 1-1 draw. Victor Osimhen's powerful header, courtesy of Ademola Lookman's precise cross, neutralized Iban Salvador's well-placed opener.

Deviating from his usual 4-4-2 formation, the Portuguese tactician started with Chippa United’s Christian Nwabili in goal. However, it was the team's inability to convert chances into goals that proved costly.

Addressing the media in the post-match conference, Peseiro acknowledged the challenging conditions, emphasizing the team's efforts despite the unfavorable circumstances.

“We did everything to win, we created many clear opportunities, and we simply deserved to win. Playing by 2 pm isn’t easy, so the temperature and humidity were not good, but our players managed it very well. It wasn’t easy playing in these conditions,” remarked the 63-year-old coach.

Despite the setback, Peseiro remains optimistic about the upcoming game, attributing the outcome to a higher power.

“I am sad, the players are also sad, but God gives and God takes. In the next game, God could give us,” he added.

The Super Eagles saw strategic substitutions, with Bright Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, Joe Aribo, Samuel Chukwueze, and Paul Onuachu entering the field to shift the game's dynamics. However, Jesus Owono proved decisive for Equatorial Guinea, ensuring a level score.
