Former Aston Villa captain, Gabriel Agbonlahor, has hit out at Chelsea’s decision to appoint former Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino as their new permanent manager.

Chelsea have been on the hunt for a full-time manager since sacking Graham Potter earlier this month.

Following Potter’s sacking, Chelsea appointed Frank Lampard as their interim manager until the end of the season.

Lampard has lost five matches in a row since taking over the Stamford Bridge club.

However, according to Football Insider, Pochettino has reached an agreement with Chelsea to become their new manager, and he is set to be joined by his former PSG and Tottenham assistants, Jesus Perez and Toni Jimenez, in June.

Speaking to the aforementioned publication, Agbonlahor cast his doubts on Pochettino’s pedigree amid recent links, insisting that it is a bit of shambles at Chelsea.

“He did not win anything at Spurs, he went to PSG – and won a league title, which any manager could do. It is a bit of a shambles at Chelsea. One minute it is [Julian] Nagelsmann, then [Luis] Enrique – now it is Pochettino,” Agbonlahor said.
“I would love to have watched all of their interviews live. What is the process in appointing this new manager? I really don’t know how Pochettino can even be in Chelsea’s thinking.
“Spurs have not even looked at him as a serious option. They have not gone for him even though he is available right now.”
