Chelsea made an inquiry about signing their former player, Willian, on a free transfer this summer to bolster manager Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
Willian made a surprise return to the Premier League last year when he signed a one-year contract with Fulham.
The winger went on to become one of Fulham’s standout performers in the Premier League last season.
The Brazilian scored five goals and registered five assists in 27 appearances for Fulham.
He was out of contract this summer, and according to ESPN Brasil, Chelsea and Manchester United both held initial talks about signing him ahead of the new 2023–24 season.
The report added that negotiations were not advanced with Chelsea and United as both clubs regarded Willian as a backup target in their summer transfer plans.
Willian eventually signed a new deal with Fulham to remain at Craven Cottage.
