Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, has cautioned new Chelsea signee Cole Palmer not to anticipate regular playing time at the club.

On the final day of the transfer window, the England international signed with the Blues for £42.5 million.

Palmer only appeared in 19 Premier League games while playing for Manchester City prior to his switch to Stamford Bridge.

The star of the England youth team joined Chelsea in order to secure regular playing time this season, Pochettino told reporters on Friday.

He has now warned the England U21 international not to expect too much.

Pochettino is adamant that the player did not get assurances before deciding to make the move.

“If someone guarantees some player to play well, that is not the case here,” Pochettino said during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“The player needs to come and perform and let us manage.
“But for us, even when you pay big money for a player at Chelsea, it doesn’t mean you are guaranteed to play. That is the wrong way to think.
“We never sign players who we promise will play. It has never happened, even when we signed Messi at Paris Saint-Germain.
“I would never promise them they would play 20 or 30 games. Come on, that is very disrespectful
“That is why we have 24, 25 players.”
