The community of Anguwar Baiyi in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State is in mourning following a devastating accident that claimed the lives of three teenage sisters, daughters of Teacher Suleiman Ozakwo.
The incident occurred on Friday, April 12, 2024, along Rafin Kunama, Abaji road in Toto.
According to family member Saidu Alhassan, the sisters—Nusaiba, Maryam, and Rumaisa—were on their way back home after visiting their uncle's wife nearby when tragedy struck. Walking along the shoulder of the road, they were hit by a speeding car driven by a drunk driver identified as Ya Zakari.
The impact of the collision proved fatal, instantly claiming the lives of the young girls. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody by the police, but a mob later demanded the vehicle involved, which they set ablaze.
Speaking to the media, grieving father Suleiman Ozakwo expressed his profound sorrow over the untimely loss of his daughters. While acknowledging the tragedy as part of God's plan, he urged the community to pray for the peaceful repose of his daughters' souls.
An anonymous police officer confirmed the arrest of the suspect, emphasizing that he was intoxicated at the time of the accident. The suspect is set to be arraigned in court on Monday, April 15, facing charges related to the tragic incident.
