With a 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau on Monday in Bissau, Nigeria exacted retaliation in the race to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Just last Friday, the Super Eagles lost to the Djurtus in an unexpected 1-0 defeat.
The rematch, however, was won by Jose Peseiro's team thanks to Moses Simon's first penalty.
The result takes Nigeria back to the top of Group A with nine points. They now have two more than Guinea-Bissau.
It also ended a four-match losing streak for the three-time African champions.
Sierra Leone occupies third place with five points, while Sao Tome and Principe each have just one point.
