The Enugu State house of assembly has joined their Ondo state counterpart to pass the prohibition of open grazing and regulation of cattle ranching Bill into law.

And with this, it has become unlawful for any herdsmen irrespective of their tribe or ethnicity to publicly graze cattle in the state.

The passing of the bill is coming two days after the House held a public hearing on the Bill

The bill, which was sponsored by the leader of the House, Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, would forestall farmers/herders clashes as well as the killing and raping of women by herdsmen.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi, had, during the public hearing, said that the Anti-open Grazing Bill is not targeted at anybody or group but to promote peaceful co-existence in the state.

It will be instructive to note that the Southern Governors Forum during their meeting in Asaba, Delta State some in May banned open grazing of cattle, and directed each state to enact a law to that effect and September 1 was given as the deadline.
