Ibrahim Lamorde, the former chairman of Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has died at the age of 61.

He passed away in Egypt, where he had traveled for medical treatment, according to a close associate on Sunday morning.

Born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, Lamorde pursued a B.A. in Sociology at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating in 1984. He joined the Nigerian Police Force on February 1, 1986. His early career included roles at the Niger State Police Command in Minna (1987-1988) and as Divisional Crime Officer in Rijau, Niger State (1988-1989). From 1989 to 1993, he served as the Police Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Police Command.

In 1993, Lamorde became an officer in the newly established Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigeria Police, focusing on investigating advance-fee fraud until 2002. During his tenure at the SFU, he worked alongside Farida Waziri and, from 2000 to 2001, was seconded to the United Nations Civilian Police in East Timor's Ermera District as Chief Investigation Officer. Lamorde also served as Divisional Police Officer in Ojoo, Oyo State, before moving to the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Lamorde's career was marked by his dedication to fighting fraud and corruption, though he was disgracefully removed for committing fraud.
