The Kano state government being led by Governor Ganduje has officially extended the two weeks lockdown imposed by President Buhari two weeks ago.

It will be recalled that barely two weeks ago, the president lifted the lockdown imposed in two states and the Federal capital and then ordered the immediate lockdown of Kano state as a result of the uprising cases in the state.

The one week lockdown order was made known by the Kano state commissioner for Information; Mallam Garba through a statement he posted on his Facebook page.

The statement reads in part:

Kano state government has announced the extension of the lockdown imposed by one week to help further combat the spread of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

The state commissioner for information, Malam Muhammad Garba, who made the announcement said the decision was reached after due consultations with the federal government and key stakeholders in the health sector.

He said the measure is aimed at further reducing indiscriminate person to person contacts

which is considered as one of the major ways the disease is being spread.

The statement, while acknowledging the consequences of the measure on the public, called for patience and support as the battle against the pandemic continues.

It also called on the people to continue to observe strict personal hygiene through regular hand washing, use of face masks and social distancing.

Malam Muhammad Garba

Hon. Commissioner, Information, Kano State
