In the early hours of Sunday, a distressing incident unfolded along Liasu Road in the Idimu area of Lagos State, as a Lexus car lost control, resulting in severe injuries to four male adults.

The accident occurred at around 5 am, with the vehicle reportedly moving at a high speed when it veered off the road and collided with a shop opposite a Catholic church in the vicinity.

According to reports, the impact of the crash not only caused extensive damage to the shop but also affected a building behind it, where occupants were still asleep at the time. Eyewitnesses revealed that the injured victims were laborers who had been employed to work on the premises.

Sodiq Aderemi, an eyewitness, shared, “The vehicle was coming from the Council bus stop when it got to this point and crashed into the shop. It destroyed all the goods in the shop. The people living in the building behind the shop were laborers and they were close to 15. They work in an uncompleted building on the premises and sleep there at night."

Aderemi continued, “While four of them were seriously injured, two others fell unconscious. They were later resuscitated after a while. The bricks of the fence fell on them while they were still sleeping.”

Another resident, identified as Abidemi, highlighted the fortunate intervention of an electric pole, which prevented the accident from turning fatal. He expressed gratitude that the incident occurred during the daytime, sparing potential harm to the owner of the shop.

The injured victims were promptly transported to the hospital for treatment. Although the driver managed to escape unharmed, residents apprehended him as he attempted to flee the scene. Adekunle Daisi, one of the residents who stopped the driver, recounted, “The occupants of the car were three. Two of them escaped while one of them was caught. He was brought back to the point where the accident happened."

Dasi added, "Some aggrieved persons wanted to set the car on fire and also lynch him before they were later prevented from doing so. He was later forced to follow the injured victims to the hospital where he was told to pay for their hospital bills.”

Some of the victims with minor injuries received immediate treatment at the hospital and were discharged. As the aftermath of the accident unfolds, the community grapples with the repercussions of the high-speed collision that disrupted the early morning tranquility.
