In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing battle against terrorism and insurgency, the Nigerian Army has uncovered and neutralized a major firearms and drone manufacturing factory operated by Armed fighters associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militia arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The factory was located at Onicha Ulona in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The operation, driven by intelligence, revealed that the dissidents were utilizing the factory to conduct criminal activities aimed at terrorizing neighboring communities and innocent citizens. Upon raiding the illegal facility, the troops encountered fierce resistance from the Armed fighters. However, they managed to overpower them in a fierce firefight. Two of the fighters were neutralized, and a substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.
Among the items seized by the troops were a variety of IPOB/ESN firearms, ammunition, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), and a fully equipped drone manufacturing facility. Additionally, the troops confiscated a range of weapons, drones in various stages of construction, prototype devices, materials for Improvised Explosive Devices, a fully equipped workshop, and several power generating sets. During the operation, four male and two female fighters were also apprehended.
The Nigerian Army reaffirms its unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist and insurgent networks as part of its efforts to address security challenges in the nation.
