Police spokesperson William Ayah confirmed the incident on Tuesday, stating that the inspector is currently in detention. Commissioner of Police Bertrand Onuoha has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged misconduct.

Inspector Muhammed's involvement came to light following the activities of a notorious gang specializing in robbing homes of household items and cars. A source revealed that a stolen car was found in the workshop of the inspector’s panel beater, who was preparing to change the car's colour in Ochadamu, Ofu Local Government Area.

The car, recognized from a robbery on June 14, 2024, had its number plate changed to an Abuja registration. The inspector presented a backdated car dealer's receipt from 2020 as proof of purchase. The panel beater had primed the car for a colour change when residents raised the alarm upon recognizing it. Police from the Quick Response Unit (QRU) attached to the Police Area Command in Idah apprehended both the inspector and his panel beater.
