Salisu Aliyu, 25, was sentenced to 15 months in prison by a Bauchi Shariah court for stealing a fan from a mosque in the Dass Park district of Bauchi city.

Mukhtar Bello, a Sharia Court judge, condemned Aliyu after he (the defendant) admitted to the crime.

The convict, on the other hand, was given the alternative of a N30,000 fine or 30 cane lashes in front of the court.

In another development, Abduljalal Sadiq was sentenced to seven months in prison for stealing a wheelbarrow.

Before the court, he was offered the alternative of a N7,000 fine or 12 cane strokes.

The defendant admitted to stealing the wheelbarrow and selling it to metal collectors in court.
