Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos delivered a significant verdict on Friday morning, April 12, sentencing cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, to six months in prison without the option of a fine.
The ruling comes following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraignment of Bobrisky on April 5th. He faced a six-count charge, including allegations of Abuse of the Naira and Money Laundering. Despite the dismissal of the money laundering charges, Bobrisky admitted to the Naira Abuse offense, leading to his conviction.
Initially remanded in EFCC detention in Lagos, the court subsequently adjourned the case for judgment to April 9. However, due to the Eid-Fitri public holiday from April 9 to April 11, the court session was postponed.
Bobrisky's sentencing marks a significant development in the legal proceedings against the social media personality, highlighting the judiciary's commitment to upholding financial regulations and combating financial crimes.
