Soldiers from the Nigerian Army (NA), operating within the 81 Division NA, have successfully averted a suicide attempt by Mrs.



Francesca Spark, who had plunged into the Lagos Lagoon near the 81 Division Officers’ Mess in Marina, Lagos, in an effort to take her own life.

In a statement released on Monday, Lt. Col. Olabisi Ayeni, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, provided this information.

He stated, "The soldiers of the 65 Battalion NA, stationed at the Officers’ Mess, spotted Mrs. Spark and promptly employed their military riverine skills and resourcefulness to rescue her."

"After her rescue, she received initial medical care and was stabilized by the battalion's medical team."

"Subsequently, her family was contacted, and she was handed over to her husband, Mr. Spark Oghene Ovie, who resides in Awoyaya, Lagos."

"Major General Muhammed Takuti Usman, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81 Division NA, commended the soldiers for their vigilance, resourcefulness, bravery, and gallantry."

"He expressed his satisfaction with the soldiers' application of their disaster management training in a critical situation that could have resulted in the loss of a fellow citizen's life."

"Maj Gen Usman emphasized that such operations are conducted during emergencies or natural disasters, and troops are well-prepared to support relevant agencies during such crises."

"He assured the residents of the NA's dedication to safeguarding their well-being and property, even during emergency situations."
