Following the recent ugly xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and some other African indigines staying in South Africa by the south Africans, the attention of some concerned Nigerians were drawn to the incident which prompted to immediate action towards finding a solution.
One person stood out in the quest to rescue the Nigerian citizens being trapped in south Africa and also victims of the attack. That man is Mr Allen Onyeama. He is the owner of air peace airline.
He volunteered his airline to go for the rescue of Nigerians still in south Africa and fly them back to Nigeria free of charge which was highly commended by so many Nigerians. The first batch of Nigerians have already landed in the country though they experienced some resistance from the south African government. The first batch brought back 187 willing Nigerians while the current second batch will also fly 319 willing Nigerians. They are meant to land at Murtala Mohammed international airport Lagos.
The Consul General Nigeria high commission in south Africa, Godwin Adama, has disclosed that the number of registered Nigerians has risen to 1,004. He also stated that the technical issue being experienced at the first evacuation has been addressed.
