In a shocking turn of events, the Imo State Police Command has apprehended Francis Marvellous, a 300-level student of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, in connection with the alleged stabbing death of Chinagorom Marvellous Kingsley, a 22-year-old final year student of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).

The arrest, as announced by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, was the result of a prompt response to a distress call received from the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of FUTO, retired DSP Patrick Egwu. Police operatives on convoy patrol swiftly intervened, preventing the suspect from being lynched by an angry mob at the scene.

Providing details on the incident, CP Danjuma explained, "The body of the victim was recovered and rushed to Federal Medical Center, Owerri, where he was confirmed dead and deposited at the mortuary."

Upon interrogation, the suspect, Francis Marvellous, confessed to the crime. He admitted having a heated argument with personnel from the University's Man O' War Unit on March 29, 2024, around 22:00 hrs. During the altercation, Marvellous revealed that he drew a concealed knife from his trousers and fatally stabbed Kingsley. The suspect also implicated three others in the fight: his brother Francis Promise, Prince, and an individual known as Soji.

Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the suspects at large and verify their involvement in the case. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is conducting a comprehensive investigation, and the suspects will be arraigned in court upon its completion.

CP Danjuma took the opportunity to address false narratives circulating on social media, clarifying that the incident is not related to any Hausa Fulani/Northern conflict. He warned against misinformation and emphasized that the police will ensure that both the suspects and those spreading fake news face the full force of the law.

To oversee the case, CP Danjuma has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take charge and ensure justice is served. Meanwhile, an eyewitness has reported the death of another student in the incident, whose identity is yet to be ascertained. The entire community is left in shock as investigations continue.
