Alan Shearer, who holds the record for most goals scored in the Premier League, has challenged Erling Haaland, a new striker for Manchester City, to surpass him.
This came after Haaland, who transferred to Man City from Dortmund this summer, scored twice against West Ham at the London Stadium to give the Premier League champions a victory.
When City lost to Liverpool in the Community Shield last weekend at the King Power Stadium, the Norwegian's performance on Sunday was a complete contrast to his struggles there.
Two excellent opportunities had been lost by him, the worst of which saw him strike the crossbar from only six yards away.
The former star of Borussia Dortmund received harsh criticism online for the misses, but he responded positively on Sunday.
“@ErlingHaaland 258 to go!!!!” Shearer tweeted City’s new striker after the game, with a couple of laughing faces in tow.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola had already hailed Haaland, branding him as the next Thierry Henry or Cristiano Ronaldo.
