The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has announced an exciting expansion, increasing the number of participating clubs from 16 to 20 for the 2025/26 season.
This groundbreaking decision was revealed during the league’s Annual General Assembly (AGA), held in Abuja on Tuesday. The NWFL emphasized that meticulous arrangements are underway to ensure the smooth implementation of the new league structure.
It’s worth noting that the NWFL initially featured just 12 teams in 2017, showcasing remarkable growth over the years. Among the top achievers, Rivers Angels have emerged as a dominant force, clinching an impressive seven league titles since the league’s inception.
This expansion marks a significant milestone for women’s football in Nigeria, offering more opportunities for clubs and players to shine on the national stage.
