Nigerian social media personality and crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.
According to News360 Nigeria, the arrest took place on Thursday evening as Bobrisky was preparing to board a flight to London.
Eyewitnesses report that authorities stopped the plane shortly before takeoff and escorted Bobrisky off in view of other passengers. Shortly afterward, Bobrisky posted on Instagram, appealing for help, saying, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
This incident follows recent legal troubles for the controversial figure. Just last week, Bobrisky was reportedly released on bail by Nigerian police after being detained by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Seme border while allegedly attempting to leave the country. The crossdresser has been under scrutiny after an audio clip surfaced in which he allegedly claimed he could serve a six-month jail sentence outside of the Kirikiri prison, supposedly due to “influential connections.”
The EFCC confirmed that Bobrisky was removed from a KLM flight to Amsterdam, detained by immigration authorities, and prevented from leaving Nigeria late Thursday night. His legal troubles began earlier this year when a Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced him to six months in prison for naira abuse. Allegations later surfaced that a ₦15 million bribe enabled him to secure preferential treatment, reportedly allowing him to serve his sentence under more lenient conditions after three weeks in custody.
With this latest arrest, Bobrisky’s legal challenges have only intensified as authorities continue their investigation into these allegations.
