Barely a week after their appointment as the Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yobe State Governor and Chairman of the commitee, Governor Mai Mala Buni on Thursday led members of the committee to the former governor of Lagos state and National leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in its bid to achieve reconciliation in the party.
According to Buni’s spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, the meeting is currently is in a bid to chart a new course for the party.
“Those in attendance include Kebbi state Governor and chairman Progressives Governors Forum Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, Niger state Governor, Alh. Abubakar S. Bello and Lagos state Governor Babajide San-Olu,” he disclosed.
The Committee, had earlier met former interim Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande. The APC was thrown into leadership crisis following the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiohmole as the National Chairman and the endorsement of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman for two weeks by a court.
However, majority of the National Working Committee (NWC) members appointed the ailing Deputy National Chairman, South, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, as the Acting National Chairman. The National Vice Chairman South South, Hilliard Eta, was subsequently appointed to act on his behalf.
It will be recalled that last Thursday, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, led by President Muhammadu Buhari dissolved the NWC and appointed Governor Buni as Chairman Caretaker/Extra-ordinary convention committee of the party.
