A Nigerian military officer, Brigadier General M.
A. Sadiq, who served as the commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano State, is currently detained by military police in Abuja. He is being investigated for allegedly diverting rice meant for palliatives and selling military equipment, including generators and operational vehicles, to scrap dealers.
According to reports, Brigadier General A.M. Tukur, a former Registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), has been appointed to take over the 3 Brigade as investigations continue. Sources have indicated that Sadiq may soon face court-martial charges.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has yet to release an official statement regarding the situation.
This news comes amid ongoing challenges within the Nigerian military, particularly regarding the morale of soldiers. In September, it was reported that 196 soldiers from the North-East and other operational zones had applied for voluntary retirement. These resignations are largely attributed to dissatisfaction with the current security environment and a desire to join military forces in other countries, such as the British and Ukrainian armies.
