At least four soldiers have been killed, and several others wounded, following a brutal attack by Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) fighters on a military base in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.
The assault took place on Sunday evening in Warja, a village strategically located between Sabon Gari and Damboa. The terrorists, arriving in large numbers on motorcycles, overwhelmed the military base, killing soldiers, setting military vehicles ablaze, and looting heavy weaponry.
According to security sources, the insurgents destroyed armored vehicles, including tanks and personnel carriers, before fleeing with a significant stockpile of ammunition. Reports from security analyst Zagazola Makama confirm that several operational vehicles were torched during the attack.
A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) revealed that the military personnel were outnumbered and overpowered by the heavily armed attackers.
This latest assault underscores the persistent security challenges in Borno State, where ISWAP continues to launch deadly offensives against military installations and civilian communities.
