Tragedy struck along the Ikirun/Offa Expressway in Inisa on Monday, claiming the lives of at least nine individuals in a horrific road accident.

The incident unfolded when a truck, laden with bags of beans and passengers, lost control and careened into the nearby bushes. The ill-fated journey originated in Niger State, with the destination set for Edo State.

The casualties, a devastating toll of nine lives, succumbed to the impact of the crash on the spot. Shedding light on the unfortunate event, Kehinde Adeleke, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Osun Command, provided details on the incident. According to Adeleke, the accident occurred in the early hours of Monday at Yidi Junction, Inisa.

In her statement, she conveyed, "Today, Monday, 25th of December 2023, one Mitsubishi Canter with plate number MNA606SB NIGER, carrying bags of beans from Niger state to Benin Edo State was involved in an accident in the early hours, which resulted in the death of nine people out of 12."

Adeleke further disclosed that the injured passengers, numbering three, were promptly evacuated by officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to Orotunde Hospital Ikirun. Simultaneously, the remains of the deceased were respectfully deposited at the hospital's morgue.

To ensure proper handling of the aftermath, both the bags of beans and the vehicle involved were evacuated to the Inisa Police Divisional Headquarters. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of road travel and the imperative need for stringent safety measures on our highways.
