Following the termination of the appointments of his media assistants, Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu took action against his deputy, Lucky Ayedatiwa, on Tuesday.
The governor's decision was made in the midst of what appears to be an interpersonal conflict between him and his deputy.
The affected aides were instructed to turn over all government property they were in possession of to the acting Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, according to a statement from the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde.
Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson, the governor's press secretary, Oladipupo Okunniga, the special assistant to the governor for new media, and Abayomi Adefolu, the special assistant to the governor for photography are among the affected aides.
Parts of the statement read as follows: "Similarly, the press staff affiliated with the deputy governor's office has been dissolved. As a result, each member of the press team must return to their respective ministries and stations.
“Equally, the Ministry of Information and Orientation is directed to provide adequate coverage for the activities of the deputy governor’s office henceforth.”
The termination of the media aides’ appointment highlights the escalating tension between Akeredolu and Ayedatiwa.
According to sources, the decision to sack Ayedatiwa’s media aides was due to news reports allegedly being orchestrated against the governor.
One of the sources who spoke anonymously with the Daily Post alleged that the deputy governor’s media team had fueled controversy involving both men, particularly when Akeredolu was on medical leave in Germany.
